I need to be pushed. I need to be challenged. And most of all, I need to be told “You can do more.” You right coach. Don’t put up with my excuses. No one puts the fear of god into me like my coaches. No one I’d rather make prouder. No one whom I’d rather hear call…
So it’s officially February, the gym traffic has died down, and I’m finally writing “2014” on all my dates. How we doing on those New Year’s Resolutions? Oh yeah, those. Tips on hitting your goals I don’t really do the whole resolve-to-stop-doing whatever thing. I don’t like to restrict myself, I just encourage moderation. If…
I was taught a few years ago that there are two types of people in this world: People who get things done, and people who make excuses. What kind of person are you? So I was asked to participate in a survey on facebook recently (link to the survey can be found here), and have…
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
This quote has particular significance to me because of an internship I did in college. Essentially, a student takes off at the beginning of summer to go sell educational materials door to door for 80 hours a week in a city they’ve never been, living with people they don’t know, and relies 100% upon themselves. When your car gets a flat on a country road in the middle of nowhere, there is no calling mom and dad or a buddy to come help. You fix it yourself, then you move on.
When you have gone half a day and haven’t seen a living soul under the age of 60 (keep in mind you’re selling kids books and software), you have to make a decision. Do I keep going, or do I stop and feel sorry for myself?
In those times, I had to dig deep and find my purpose. Quite a few of those kids who came out “for experience” didn’t even know what that meant. “Experience” doesn’t really mean anything to you when the last 5 people have slammed the door in your face, you’ve had the cops called on you multiple times (I was very threatening in my collared shirt, khaki shorts, visor, and fanny pack), you haven’t sold anything all day, and you forgot your lunch in your roommates car as she dropped you off that morning at 7:30 am.
What meant something to me was not quitting, not giving up, and finding strength to keep going AND have a positive outlook through the suck. It’s easy to be in a good mood and get things done when everything is going well. What shapes your character and defines you as a man or a woman, is how you deal with adversity and doing things you don’t want to do.
I don’t always WANT to go workout. I don’t always WANT to finish.
I do it because it is what I said I would do.
I do it because I have goals in my life that I want to achieve.
I do it because every little step, every minute decision, every choice I make is leading me towards those goals.
And although it may suck, you may be tired, and you don’t want to do what you said you would do, I never REGRET it. I always REGRET not doing it. Waking up early? Going to the gym? Picking the healthier option on the menu? I don’t want to live my life with regret.
So I choose discipline.
What will you do today to work towards your goals? Tell me about your self discipline. It is a constant battle, a daily struggle, but it gets easier.
A wise man once told me that if you can do it once, you can do it twice. If you can do it twice, you can make it a habit. Go make some new good habits today.Quoteable Quotes: Discipline…Please share and follow!
This is the beginning of a new day. I have been given this day to use as I will. I can waste it, or use it for good. What I do with this day is important because I’m exchanging a day of my life for it. I want it to be gain, not loss; good, not evil; success, not failure, in order that I shall not regret the price I paid for it. May I have sufficient wisdom and courage that this shall be my record for today.
Say this out loud every morning this week. You’ll be surprised at how it will instantly change your mood, your day, and maybe the way you look at the rest of your life.Quoteable Quotes: This is the beginning of a new day…Please share and follow!
Get Motivated in 3 Steps by Kristi Hightower A good friend of mine recently reminded me that “it does not matter that you go fast, it only matters that you GO.” Motivation can be a tricky beast and some days you just need to take a deep breath and start somewhere. Follow these 3 basic…
Success is never owned, it is rented… and rent is due EVERYDAY
This quote helps motivate me to work hard every day and to make small goals on a daily basis to make sure I am working towards my goals and not stagnating.
Success is not a matter of luck, one doesn’t strike gold on the first try. It comes from ignoring the naysayers and forgetting how many times you have failed, and looking at obstacles as opportunities.
Go make today your bitch.Quoteable Quotes: Success is never owned…Please share and follow!
I woke up this morning feeling a little feisty and decided to do something I haven’t done in a while. I looked at myself in the mirror, made eye contact, pointed and said: You good lookin son of a gun, don’t you ever die! Where did that come from, you ask? This sales internship I…
So it’s Thursday. Half my week has gone by and I haven’t accomplished nearly what I wanted. I am super sore from bench presses and a mini session of Leg Blasters yesterday so I feel pretty accomplished. In case you’re wondering what “Leg Blasters” are, think of jello legs. Yeah. Squats. Lunges. Jumping lunges. Jumping…
