I don’t want to get bulky, so I don’t lift weights It’s a statement I hear all too often. In fact, I used to say it before I started lifting weights. I would look disdainfully at the women who have worked long and hard for their physiques and say, “I don’t want to get…

So I have the fortune of being in pretty decent health and I don’t get sick very often. When I do, it involves one of two things: alcohol or allergies. Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace.
This rings true for me, because I used to worry about everything. I listened to a friend who told me how he handles situations when I get all riled up. He assesses the situation, and if he can do anything to make it better, he does. If he can’t, then he stops worrying.
Pretty much like the serenity prayer, which in my door to door days I saw on quite a porchways and doormats.
It asks for the serenity to accept the things you can’t change, the courage to change what you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Worrying won’t make it better.Quoteable Quotes: Worrying…Please share and follow!
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.
This quote has particular significance to me because of an internship I did in college. Essentially, a student takes off at the beginning of summer to go sell educational materials door to door for 80 hours a week in a city they’ve never been, living with people they don’t know, and relies 100% upon themselves. When your car gets a flat on a country road in the middle of nowhere, there is no calling mom and dad or a buddy to come help. You fix it yourself, then you move on.
When you have gone half a day and haven’t seen a living soul under the age of 60 (keep in mind you’re selling kids books and software), you have to make a decision. Do I keep going, or do I stop and feel sorry for myself?
In those times, I had to dig deep and find my purpose. Quite a few of those kids who came out “for experience” didn’t even know what that meant. “Experience” doesn’t really mean anything to you when the last 5 people have slammed the door in your face, you’ve had the cops called on you multiple times (I was very threatening in my collared shirt, khaki shorts, visor, and fanny pack), you haven’t sold anything all day, and you forgot your lunch in your roommates car as she dropped you off that morning at 7:30 am.
What meant something to me was not quitting, not giving up, and finding strength to keep going AND have a positive outlook through the suck. It’s easy to be in a good mood and get things done when everything is going well. What shapes your character and defines you as a man or a woman, is how you deal with adversity and doing things you don’t want to do.
I don’t always WANT to go workout. I don’t always WANT to finish.
I do it because it is what I said I would do.
I do it because I have goals in my life that I want to achieve.
I do it because every little step, every minute decision, every choice I make is leading me towards those goals.
And although it may suck, you may be tired, and you don’t want to do what you said you would do, I never REGRET it. I always REGRET not doing it. Waking up early? Going to the gym? Picking the healthier option on the menu? I don’t want to live my life with regret.
So I choose discipline.
What will you do today to work towards your goals? Tell me about your self discipline. It is a constant battle, a daily struggle, but it gets easier.
A wise man once told me that if you can do it once, you can do it twice. If you can do it twice, you can make it a habit. Go make some new good habits today.Quoteable Quotes: Discipline…Please share and follow!
